Here's the situation: My boyfriend and I have lived together for over a year, and plan on getting married down the road. He is a few years older than me and has already graduated college. I took a few years off to take care of my father who had cancer. I now want to go back to school. Our plan from the beginning was for him to finish school and get a job, and then I could go back since he was almost finished with his Communications degree. We currently live in Alabama, which offers very little opportunity when it comes to getting a job in his field of work (broadcasting, marketing, etc.). He wants to move to a bigger city in another state. I am all for moving to a bigger city, but how will that affect me going back to school? What about tuition? Can I still get loans and financial aid? Please help! I don't want to hold him back, but I don't want to keep putting my life on hold as well.

  1. You should not have any problems with schooling and getting financial assistance.  It is everywhere.  But, I worry about you leaving your family.  I am sorry about your Dad.  This is my opinion, if you have no other family to worry about then go and have fun meeting new friends going to school.

  2. There shouldn't be a problem getting financial aid. Fees rise only when you are not  a resident of the U.S. and are on a student Visa. You shouldn't have a problem but if you were planning on starting 9/2008 school year, the deadline to apply passed. This is in California. Different states have different deadlines. Make sure you talk to him first in regards to what specific city he thinks has more job opportunities in his field and then start from there.

    Good luck!
