What should I name the turtle?

Question

my grandma just found a turtle and he is the size of a half dollar. we don't no what breed but he is black and has a really long tail he isn't a snaper tho. What should I name him?

how about you release the turtle where it was found.  wild-caught turtles do not make good pets.  you cannot possibly care for it properly if you don't even know what it is.  if you want a turtle, buy captive-bred from a reputable breeder or at a reptile show.  please release the turtle before you kill it.

your grandmother is old enough to know better than to bring home a wild-caught anything.  you are either a guardian of wildlife or a destroyer of wildlife.  what's it going to be?

Here are some things to consider first:

In my experience, turtles can be hard to keep as a pet sometimes. Its even harder if the turtle was once wild. It will most likely find a way out and return to the wild.

Second, is how will Gilligan react to him? All this time he had the tank to himself. Now if he all of a sudden has to share he might not like that. Turtles are territorial, if they both male you might have some issues.

Third, the turtle you found might have diseases that could spread to Gilligan.

Ok so now that I have given you my warnings to preserve not only the wild turtle but Gilligan as well. I can only hope you will decide what is best for both turtles. Wild turtles should remain wild.

If you still want to keep him... you could name him Squirt like the soda. I have a turtle from my friends turtles and that's what I named him. Or watch the turtles behavior as that is a good hint to a name.

i agree with the person saying let it back out.

release it back out where you found it, simply go to the store and if you dont want to spend the money for a new turtle, then simply don't buy it.

wild turtles are called WILD for a reason. you cant just pick them up and think they will survive in a little tank with another turtle that they dont even know at all.
