  1. It is a juvenile Red-Bellied Woodpecker.  If you look in the guide books you will see the adults have a red head, this is not present on the juveniles.  It is not a gila woodpecker because you are in the wrong part of the country.  It is also not a flicker (though that was my first thought) because it is missing the red spot on the back of the head as well as the heavy spotting of the belly and sides.  It is definitely a juvenile Red-Bellied.

  2. Looks like some kind of South American wood-p****r/bug eater. It kinda of has a long beak... but it isn't a hummingbird because they don't land at all. Maybe you can send it in email to a zoologist?

  3. Its an immature red bellied woodpecker.

edit: Dang he beat me while I was reading!

  4. It is a woodpecker. The closest match I could find is the Gila woodpecker, but that doesn't have a pale breast like yours.

It would help to know where you saw it!

  5. It looks like a flicker, but it's hard to be sure.

    Note: Hummingbirds do land.
