  1. handball is when you play single while smacking a small, rubber ball against a wall.  it's like raquetball, but without a raquet.  team handball is a combination of soccer and basketball, and is played internationally.

  2. Well I can tell you about team handball- Played by Men and Women. Summer Olympic Sport 1972 (men) 1976 (women).

Handball ( or "team handball") is a fast paced game involving 2 teams of 7 players who pass, throw, catch and dribble a small ball with their hands while trying to score goals. The team with the most goals wins the game. A game consists of two- 30 minute halves with a 10- minute halftime break.

The game was invented around the late 1800's and started in Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. The reason why you haven't heard much about this sport is because it's a big sport in most of EUROPE, North Africa, and South Korea.

The USA does have a handball team , but we are awful last time we qualified was Atlanta only because of a rule that gives the host nation a spot for each sport. Some colleges even have team handball as a club sport. Read this ESPN story of one women trying to make the team.

If you go to Iceland, Germany, Poland, Denmark, France, Hungary,Croatia, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia or Tunisia it's a winter sport on TV and people watch professional clubs play in leagues. The following nations also play in international tournaments. ( I gave you most of the major countries)

OK that's allot, but I hope you have a better understanding of this game which is every bit as fast paced as basketball except for all those time outs at the end. Here is the Olympic description of this sport with pics click on demonstraion for an animated explanaton of the rules of the game.

  3. Note: I've used this answer before:

Truthfully, forms of handball are considered to be the oldest form of sport played with a ball and a wall. There are three different varieties including 1-wall, 3-wall and 4-wall each can be played as singles or doubles. It has the same basic rules as racquetball, however that is because racquetball was derived from handball. For many it is considered to be more challenging than racquetball because to become skilled you are required to use both sides of your body (which is harder than it sounds). In fact you get such a big workout you can expect to burn over 800 calories per hour when playing. This is one of the reasons handball was named the best all-around conditioner by the president's council on physical fitness.

The governing body for the sport is the United States Handball Association, which helps to sanction over 100 tournaments per year and oversees the national tournaments. The Handball Hall of Fame is located in Tucson, Arizona and it serves as the HQ for the USHA. More information on handball can be found at www.ushandball.org.

Also in terms of where do you play since there are several different types of handball there are different areas to play. If ou are interested in 1-wall or 3-wall handball contact your local parks & rec department to see if any of your parks have public courts if not suggest they build some. If you want to play 4-wall phone local fitness clubs with racquetball courts and ask if any of them have a strong following of handball players. If you become a member of the USHA you can contact their HQ and ask for players in the area.

  4. It is like a palmball. You hold it with your entire hand to make it like a changeup but it has a sinking acion to it.
