What to PACK for SPAIN?

For 3 1/2 weeks end of May/beginning of June, ONE fairly large suitcase, southern cities--Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Salamanca (2 weeks), Seville.

I REALLY don't want to look like a tourist, even though I will because I'll be with a big group...

I know like toothbrush, shampoo, etc.

I mean like what clothes and shoes and anything else that would be handy!

Please help me!

P.S. 15 year old girl turning 16 while in Spain :)

I live in Arizona, U.S.A.

  1. Your best bet is to go with clothes that you will be comfortable in.  Stick with warm weather clothes, though you may want some light jacket for Madrid in the mornings.  It warms up by around 10, but before that, it's pretty chilly.

Stay conservative.  Spanish girls don't really show too much skin in the cities, and you don't want to come off looking trampy.  If you think you can walk all day in them, bring ballet flats for shoes.  It's the tennies that tip them off all over Europe.  Very few places is it okay to wear athletic shoes in public.  they use them for the GYM only in most places.

In Madrid, last year, the women were all wearing scarves, artfully tied or draped, so, some sort of light scarf would help you fit in, but by the time we got south, you didn't see that at all, different climate.

Capris ALWAYS seem to be in style in Spain, and the women there dress more than we do in the states, so, maybe a skirt or two, as well, but not TOO short, though a mini is in (around knee length):

  2. If you're a nearly 16-year old female I'm guessing you have a closet full of "flip-flops". Leave them at home and take comfortable shoes and sandals instead. Those flip-flops are synonymous with "American tourist". But if you're with a group of other Americans all the time anyway, well, your destiny is sealed so wear what you want. The boys in your group will be wearing their ball caps, baggy pants, and tennis shoes too.

So don't worry about what you wear. Just take warm(er) weather clothing and you'll enjoy yourself more. Nothing worse than being HOT (in my opinion). If you're desperate you can always buy one heavy sweater if you didn't pack one.
