I am having the guys over for "fight night" and want to make something easy. I have a bunch of hot links and buns in the freezer, what should I serve with them? I was thinking of homemade coleslaw and baked beans?

  1. Perfect.  My first thought was beans, but I was thinking of potato salad.  Cole slaw works, too.  Add a beer, and it's ideal.

  2. Definately baked beans. I agree with potato or egg salad over cole slaw. BBQ chips are yummy.

  3. fries, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad. chips and dip.

  4. Coleslaw and baked beans sound absolutely PERFECT!  ... The only thing you might want to add is a fruit salad  ...  maybe a relish tray with pickles, olives, etc.

  5. Good old American potato salad and Bush's Country-Style baked beans.   I've eaten, at least, 20+ flavours of beans and tried these about a month ago - sooo good!   Please, don't cook "links" in water - this removes all the taste; broiling or pan-frying in a bit of oil and hope your freezer has Nathan's all-beef skinless? ... if not, don't expect me to be there.

Potato Salad recipe is The 'Standard' American One, learned in cooking school and, can be prepared a day in advance.  This serves 5-6 (figure 5oz. potatoes per person + one will give you some to taste....).

2 lbs. Yukon Gold or Red Bliss potatoes

    1/4  cup red wine vinegar

    salt & pepper

    3  hard-boiled eggs, peeled & cut into /2" dice

    (eggs are optional)

    1/2   cup celery, minced

    2  TB. red onion, minced

1/4 cup gherkins (sweet pickles), minced

1/2  cup Best Foods or Hellman's mayonnaise

    2  tsp. Dijon mustard

    2  TB. flat-leaf parsley, minced

Place potatoes in deep pot & cover with 1" cold water.  Bring to a simmer and cook, about, 25 mins. until a paring knife, "stabbed" into center of potato, meets no resistance.

Drain & cut into 3/4 inch cubes then, place in large bowl and, gently toss with vinegar, 1/2 tsp. salt & 1/4 tsp. black pepper.

Cover bowl with plastic wrap & refrigerate 20-25 mins. then add other ingredients.

  6. The coleslaw and baked beans are a great idea.

You could also serve potato salad, chips, a veggie tray (most people don't think of this for guys but I know plenty of guys who love raw veggies with dip).

And don't forget something a little sweet (brownies, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels) and a couple of beverage options (even if it's a bring your own beverage kind of thing it's a good idea to at least have bottled water and extra of your favorite beverage on hand).
