What valve is needed ?

Our control panel has separate controls for hot water and heating.

if you set the hot water to come on the radiators also come on. we were once told we need a valve because all the piping runs in the wrong order and that this valve will sort out the problem of the heating coming on, someone suggested turning off the radiators that's no good though because the radiators leek. Does anyone know the name of the valve we need to sort out this problem.

sorry if i have been a bit vague but it's hard to explain when you don't really know what you mean :)

  1. It is a motorised valve, and fits into the heating circuit near about in the airing cupboard, or you can buy a manual one, but it means that every time you want the rads off, you have to do it yourself. The motorised type is wired into your programmer. Then you just press the button and the rads are off. (Takes about 40 seconds to close)

  2. I assume you have a "wet"system, that is,a boiler heating water which is then pumped to radiators and hot water storage tank.

I think the valve you mention is a motorised diverter valve. This controls the water flow and sends it to the rads. if demanded,or to the hot water system,or both.

This obviously requires plumbing work, also you will need a room stat & a cylinder stat to control the valve which entails electrical work(the valve operates by an electric motor).

  3. Try fitting a NON RETURN VALVE. this should fix your problem
