What was your team's "defining moment" this past season? It can be a good one or one that sealed your team's doom. One play or game, one player's heroics or bonehead play. What do you think it was? Give examples.

  1. Detroit - Winning the Stanley Cup!!

Columbus - When they beat the Ducks 4-0 early in the season. Columbus looked like competitors for the first half of the year, then for some reason, they started to slip. Another defining moment, was when Rick Nash scored that gorgeous goal against Phoenix. It showed Columbus had skilled players, but just couldn't structure themselves to make a run at the post season.

  2. Blowing the 5 goal lead to Montreal was the Rangers' defining moment this year.

Ignoring the slow start, we were a very good team all year, and some people considered us a legitimate contender.  However, that game just describes our season... we're good, very good in fact, but just not good enough.  We can play well when we have to, but we can't lock it down.  We can't get over the hump, we become complacent, the wheels can fall off quickly.

Call it foreshadowing, I guess, because in game 1 vs. the pens, we gave up a 3 goal lead, which ultimately led to us not being able to be competitive in the series.  We win game 1... we have home ice, we make pittsburgh sweat a bit, we don't go down 3-0 in the series.

But, like we did against Montreal, we showed that we are a very good team... but that we're just not ready to take that final step.

Luckily, most Rangers fans are pessimists and expect the worst.

  3. My team won their 11th Stanley Cup! :D

Also when it was a 5 on 3 and Zetterberg took the puck out of his zone and made a shot on the goal! That was heroic and amazing at the same time. Pittsburgh never did score on that 5 on 3

  4. When the leafs stepped out onto the ice in the first game of the season against the senators.

  5. When Joe Sakic tied the game off a Peter Forsberg pass vs. the Oilers with 5.9 seconds to go at the Pepsi Center on March 28. The Avs were down 4-3 with 14 seconds left and a faceoff in the Oilers' zone. Amazingly, most of the sellout crowd was still there, barely anyone left the arena. I remember Forsberg skating up to Sakic before the faceoff and whispering something in his ear, and I thought to myself he probably said something like "All-right Joe, 14 seconds left, let's do this!" or something like that, lol. And Sakic won the faceoff, Forsberg got the puck behind the net and made this sweet dish to Sakic who buried it high in the net with just 5.9 seconds left. It was as if the Pepsi Center exploded! It hadn't been that loud there for a long time (although it was louder when we beat the Wild in the playoffs later on). It was such a crucial game in terms of the playoff/standings race, and after they won it in the shootout following a scoreless OT, I knew the Avs were gonna make the playoffs for sure.

  6. Sabres-Flyers game(Feb 25th)

At that point in time, the Sabres were battling to make the playoffs along with the Flyers who were within a few points of eachother. Buffalo started out strong and had a 3-0 lead, only to blow the lead and eventually lose in the shootout on a goal by Danny Briere, using his usual shootout move(he's done it at least 10 times as a Sabre) that Miller for some reason didn't see coming.

  7. Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals when Maxime Talbot scored the goal that sent us to overtime, with 30 seconds left in the game. SIMPLY AMAZING and heroic.

  8. Sykora's goal in the 3OT Game 5 of the SC Finals.

I think that game was the very epitome of the Pens' "never say die spirit", as sgoldperson put it. I felt pure joy. It was after midnight and, with utter glee,

I screamed like a banshee. I'll never forget that game.

WAIT, can I change my defining moment to when Hasek tripped Gaborik and sent him flying?? I know it has nothing to do with the Pens... but it makes this Pens fan laugh every time she sees it. Ohhh yes: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5-EMuE8OuKg

  9. When the Leafs lost 8-0 to your Panthers. Pretty-boy Matt Stajan got his butt handed to him, but gotta give credit for getting into a scrap to begin with. That was also my defining moment in my career as I got kicked out of the ACC!

  10. The defining moment for the Blues was Tkachuk scoring goal number 500 in the last minute of the last game of the season.  Great!

  11. I think it was by the 5th or 6th game of the regular season that I began to detect a problem where the Flyers would lose their discipline in the 3rd period in games where they held the lead.

It became their weakpoint during the season and cost them a lot of points.

  12. the Sharks defining moment was that 11-game win streak that started in pittsburgh...also battling it out for 4 OT's before unfortunately losing.

  13. DiPietro getting hurt at the All-Star Skills competition. The team was competitive up until then, with people asking if the whole division could make the playoffs, etc.  Everything seemed to dogpile onafter that, especially injuries(led league in man-games lost to injury).

  14. I'm a devils fan and the moment(s) that made our season was the 9 game win streak before christmas including the amazing 5-4OT win against Boston where we were down 4-0 in the second period.....

The one that sealed our fate was the horrid penalty shot by John Madden again Henrik Lunqvist during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals against the NYR.  The season was over long before that but that was just terrible to see.....

  15. Penguins pulling Fluery and getting that goal to go into OT. It defined their never say die spirit(as well as still having success without Fluery on the ice lol).

  16. NJ Devils- Every Record that Marty Broduer broke this year!!!!

  17. When Zetterberg tied up Crosbys stick on the 5 on 3 in game 4.

  18. My beloved Canadiens coming back from a 5-0 deficit to beat NYR in the shootout. Ironically despite saving Price's a*s in that game, it was Huet's last game with Mtl

How were you kicked outta there 288 thought you worked the games?

Not really Greg .. it was a tail of two games for our respective teams
