What was the gunfight?

i saw it on "world's wildest police videos" and i cant remember when or where it was. i remember there were two gunmen in full black body armour. and i remember seeing a clip of a cop hiding behind a payphone, and another clip of one gunmen hiding behind a car that the other was driving. i remember it ended in a shootout and the criminals got killed or injured badly.im sorry i dont have much information, but this is all i can remember.

The answers you've received so far have been fairly accurate.  Those two thugs were armed with semiauto rifles and they had a lot of magazines, they also were wearing body armor from top to bottom.  In film clips of the incident you can clearly see these guys taking hits from cops shooting back, but of course they weren't hurt.  If only a few cops were good enough to get in a shot to the head the scenario may have turned out differently, but when the Adrenalin is pumping even an easy shot becomes difficult.

LA, both criminals died.  One died when he accidentally or on purpose shot himself in the head.  The other died when the police shot is feet and he bleed to death while in handcuffs.

Sounds like the North Hollywood shootout in 1997...the robbers had fully automatic weapons and the cops were woefully unprepared.
