  1. Quantum mechanics doesn't replace anything. Rather, it expalins a wide variety of phenomena that were either unknown or not explained before its advent.

The so-called "old quantum mechanics (1900-1923) explained such things as the blackbody spectrum, the spectra of simple atoms, the photoelectric effect, and many other things. Names associated with it are Planck, Einstein, Bohr, and Rutherford among others. It was supplanted and absorbed by the "new quantum mechanics" (1923- ) which explained atomic spectra in great detail, together with many aspects of molecules and chemistry and nuclear reactions of all kinds and many more. Associated names are de Broglie, Schroedinger, Pauli, Born, Heisenberg, Fermi, and Dirac.

  2. Quantum mechanics has been studied since I before I started college in '63 - it's not going to replace anything, it's simply physics.  Okay, it's very complicated physics - but it still isn't replacing anything, it builds on previous knowledge.

  3. Maybe the question should be, what will String theory replace.

  4. quantum mechanics would replace parts of classical physics, just as the theory of relativity did.

now particles are no longer expressed just as particles, but as a wave function. and particles arent thought of as a fixed point, but as a cloud of probability.

  5. quantum mechanics replaced classical mechanics for objects at the atomic level and smaller.

relativity for objects near the speed of light

quantum relativistic physics for small "objects" near the speed of light.

Try doing a search on "correspondence principle" to learn more about these ideas.

    bye for now.

  6. Nothing. the question is what will you add to quantum mechanics and possibly what will replace quantum mechanics itself.
