  1. like it depends what you mean, I say fencing is good and fun. Like the foil is basics, my friend does epay then last is sabre, sabre sounds coolest, epay funest, and foil is good too!

  2. I would say the kind that lets you use a gun.  A big gun, then you don't even have to know how to shoot that well.  BLAM BLAM

  3. Hi.

There is no best martial art, it's mostly personal preference.

You used the words "fighting" and "style", this may narrow your options down a bit as some styles aren't very practical for certain types of fighting.  Let's go through a few examples.

Tae Kwon Do is great for sport fighting but not necessarily for the street.  However it does depend on how it is taught, some schools will teach Tae Kwon Do with a self defense application in mind.  It relies heavily on kicking so if you like kicking and can find a good school Tae Kwon Do may be the right style for you.

Jujitsu is another popular option these days.  It is great for sport fighting (MMA / UFC types mostly) and is also practical for one on one self defense.  However it tends to be a dangerous style to use while facing multiple opponents.  This is because it is a grappling style in where you tangle yourself with your opponent (usually on the ground) in order to subdue him.  If the person you are beating has a friend or friends close by then you are in no position to defend yourself against them.

Wing Chun is a very good style for combat.  It relies on trapping and striking with only a few main kicks that are usually low to your opponent’s legs.  The specific emphasis they place on self defense or on sport may vary from school to school, as is the case with nearly any style for that matter.

Kenpo Karate is a versatile, well rounded group of different but similar styles, many of which are based on self defense.  Many of them use concepts and techniques from different styles, for example Chinese Kenpo Karate uses Jujitsu and Hung Gar Kung Fu to make it a very well rounded system.

So it will really depend on what type of fighting you want to do.  Your best bet is to go and visit a school to see what it is like.  Ask to sit in on and watch a class, or better yet take an introductory course, they are usually fairly cheap if not free.  If it looks like something you would like to do then that will probably work better for you than any opinions of "which style is best" you will get here.  Also the instructors play a key role, if they are good you can get a lot out of training but if not you probably shouldn't even bother.

You will get out of martial arts what you put in so whatever style you take you will make it work for you.  The key is finding a school and instructors that will help you along the way rather then trying to fit you into a mold so you do everything exactly like everyone else no matter what.

As far as online lessons go they aren't exactly the best when it comes to quality training.  Even if you find some good ones you will not get the full benefit of the training.  There are simply too many subtle nuances that only an experienced instructor can pick up on that in some cases can be vital to making the style work.  Also you need someone to practice with, and without the experienced eye of an instructor watching and guiding you this can be dangerous.

If you simply don't want to train in a group setting that's fine, look for a school that offers private lessons so you can learn at you own pace.  In my style, Chinese Kenpo Karate, private lessons are not only offered but are emphasized.  If you're interested look for a Tracy's Karate Studio, if you can't find one simply look around to schools in your area and ask about private instruction.

However if you are bound and determined to take "online lessons" then you can try googling "distance learning".  I know that wle.com offers a distance learning program though I haven't been able to find that section of the website recently.  It might be a place to start at least.

Note that I do not recommend distance learning programs as I cannot vouch for their effectiveness.  You asked so I gave an unbiased answer.

I hope this answers your questions and good luck with whatever training you choose :)

  4. There is no such thing as a best martial art. Nor better or worst. They all have ups and downs. Martial arts was invented as a way to defend yourself, so any martial art will help you in a street fight. Even more, it will help you to talk your way out of one. There are only better fighters, schools, & teachers. We utilize the art, we defend ourselves, we fight. Arts don't fight for us.

It all boils down to YOU, and what YOU like, and what strengths and weaknesses YOU have.

Most people who actually say, "oh this martial art is the best that one sux..der..der..der" are only Biased opinions.

Lets say there a was a best martial art. Why on earth would their be other arts? Theres already a best, right?

    Good Luck!
