  1. Depends. Usually it's an extension of the Mass Media department of the college to give students a real life albet not as critical mission of being on air, in production and such.

Some areas, the college owns it with the the students doing production only and using airing programming such as NPR as was announced.

College radio also refers to a free form format of music aimed at students of a college but in most contests refer to alternative rock that is not totally mainstream but is more of in the between stages of local group and national superstars

  2. public radio

  3. Well, in general, it's a radio station that is licensed to a college or university.

In a lot of places, it's more for the school or college than for the kids. The schools often broadcast NPR News and features along with jazz or classical music programming.

But..then there are the stations that are still licensed to the college, but is run by student managers, volunteer DJs, usually with a faculty adviser overseeing the station. These stations tend to be free-form or alternative. There are two of these in the market where I live - one is total free-form and the other is a mix of gospel and R&B.

It's special to the kids who are considering broadcasting as a career, because it gives them a chance to learn and make mistakes before moving on to the "real world" of broadcasting - where you have to know your stuff, because second chances are rare these days.

  4. its a radio  which gives college's news

  5. I'm gald you asked jimmy. College radio is the stuff fm and am can't play not beacuse of the FCC but becuase it sucks. They mistly talk about college like "Did you see XWU beat A&W U" wich only people that went there care about.
