Whats the car part called..?

In an auto car .....the thing you hold to go from park, reverse, drive, etc. MY MIND HAS GONE BLANK AND ITS ANNOYING THE CRUD OUTTA ME!!!!! WHAT IS THIS PART CALLED!!!!????

On an automatic transmission it is called the gear selector.  On a stick or manual transmission it is called the gearshift.  And the part at the very end that you hold onto is called the k**b.
