  1. I would say, stay in the TO buddy

  2. I don't think you could do really well in most of the service industry. I dispatch commercial trucks and had no experience and no education beyond a high school diploma when I started. I started at $18/hour a year ago. I make $20/hour now. My fiance gets about $30/hour as a foreman in a gravel pit. We rent a house for $1650/month, which the owners are trying to sell right now for about $380,000. We both also get a bonus at the end of the year, 5% of our gross income. The price of housing has gone down lately, and is still going down, but for renting, I think it hasn't changed too much.

Oh yes, and we pay $700/month for daycare, but we're getting a great deal. Some places I checked were $800 or $900/month, and have strict hours, unlike ours.

  3. Pay at fast food places is around 14.00 /hr in Calgary. A lot of them have short evening hours cause they can't find enough people to stay open late. A one-star motel room by the month is about $600-$700 Gas is 1.34/l

  4. I can tell you I met a guy who owns a McDonalds in

Fort McMurray and has to pay his staff 20.00 an hour because everyone is working in the oil fields. BUT the

cost of living is through the roof. You have to have 20.00 an hour just to live. There is no housing available and what is

there is very expensive. Go online and check out the

calgary papers for want ads for apartments and jobs and get an idea before you decide to move. I live in BC and a lot of

people in the last five years have moved to Alberta and then just as quickly moved back because they couldn't afford to live there.
