To me it seems like a time where atheletes (pro and amatuer) can come and compete in a good not as stressfull or as competive environment. I was reading an article today and china was complaining how the winner of the olympics is whatever country won the most gold medals ? Are they serious ? I thought it was about the athelets, not a bunch of countries trying to brag about who won what medals ?

  1. it is about the atheletes there is no true "winner" of the atheletes or at least its not acknowledged

  2. China is saying that because right now they are behind in the medal count, but ahead in Gold medals.

The US will be saying that they are best with the most medals.

People love to go around screaming "we're number 1, we're number 1" even if they personally didn't win anything. Like if your favorite football team wins, you suddenly are part of that team.

The athletes do feel the greatest pride, and should, but their counties feel like they are partly responsible. The US has sunk the most money into training, even athletes from other countries come here to train.

The main purpose of the Olympics, at least in the US, is money. The networks, the T-shirt makers, sport shops and manufacturers, all see a big cash-cow.

  3. Who cares.
