I bought a parakeet (Buddy) to help my tramautized bird Lizzie. Since than they have been nuzzling each other, preening each other, and Buddy has been feeding Lizzie. Also, Lizzie has been fluffing up her feathers real big. I read online and they said it could either be an:

a. tumor (but is it a coincidence she got it when Buddy came in)

b. ingrown feather (again a coincidence?)

c. to cold (coincidence)

d. nothing (but why did it start when Buddy came in)

did buddy give her something from the pet store, but he's not doing it....... should she see a vet? What's wrong with my Lizzie!?

  1. that is not good if Lizzy is fluffing her feathers and staying puffy looking, she should be taken to an avian vet asap.

  2. This sounds like typical breeding behavior, especially if your male is regurgitating for your female.  Give your avian vet a call just in case, and separate them or try to reduce any variables in their environment that could encourage the behavior if you aren't ready to handle the commitment of delicate young chicks.

  3. I'm no expert on parakeets but sounds to me like Buddy and Lizzie may be starting a romance of their very own.  Could be some little Lizzies in the near future.
