Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson (probably my favorite book of all time)

The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane (amazing, amazing book)

All of John Steinbeck's novels (anyone who has read John Steinbeck does not need an explanation)

As for more modern fiction, it would have to be-

Year of the Hangman by Gary Blackwood (I can't think of a better or more spellbinding book)

The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett (the most moving book I've ever read)

April Morning by Howard Fast (and other various fiction and nonfiction about the American Revolution- as you can see, I'm obsessed with that)

All of Ann Rinaldi's books about the American Revolution

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke (very interesting)

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling (not bad at all, it keeps you interested throughout the entire series)

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult (inspirational and a very, very good read)
