Question:

Wheel Horse Mower Question?

I have an old Wheel Horse Riding lawn mower. When I was mowing my lawn it stared to seem like it was losing power when I had the blades going. But when I shut the deck off it seemed like it was running fine. It was smoking a little bit and it was back fireing. It would only do this with the deck engaged. Even when I turned the deck on over my driveway it was still working very hard. Then I noticed that when I had the deck on and had it at about half throtle it would work better. Then when I put the Throtle all the way down to idel and then pushed it up to full throtle quickly I would hear a loud squeeking and a kinda pinging noise until it was at the right RPM. I checked all the belts and they where tight and I also made sure the air filter was clean. Any idea what it is and how to fix it?

Thanks for the help, It is much Appreciated!

  1. check under the deck for something wrapped up in the blade.

  2. many mowers installed the muffler under the mower to qiet the mower down but the muffler can plug up from dried of grass etc it may only be partially covered by stuff and this is why the problem at full throttle. I've also seen where stuff got jammed between the blade and the motor and caused a similar problem, jamming the bearing.
