Does the chemical composition of sea water change when a storm is in progress? Meaning, let's say you were miles under water, would there be a detectable way to know from analysis that above a storm was happening?

  1. Likely no.  Ocean water is stratified by temperature and is icy cold at depths even at the equator.  Most wave action and storm activity can not penetrate the depths.

  2. No not likely. Only the first 20 or so feet are affected by rain on the surface.

The rain causes the ocean to become less salty but there is no way to tell if it is raining on the surface from hundreds of feet below the surface
