July through to first frost, if protected in a sheltered position they may survive the winter I have one that is three years old in a pot not the ground

It really depends on where you are located.  You can buy gerbers all year round in the stores as they are easily grown in greenhouses.  If you have them outside they should flower all summer long and into the early fall provided the weather stays warm.  If you leave them outside they will die off as annuals do in the cold but you can put them in a pot and they will live inside all year as a houseplant.

You can obtain gerberas at any time of the year, the only thing you really have to think about are seasonal colours.  Reds and whites are HUGELY expensive at Christmas time, for example.  

It also depends where you want to buy them from, wholesale wise - Some farms don't grow gerbs as a mainstay, so they have a smaller selection.  If you are buying them from a florist, you have to remember that each florist is different.  Some are all about the cash (I've seen the worst penny pinchers imaginable - sacraficing quality for a few cents), while some are more about the image, while some are totally about the customer - and every variation in between.  If you can shop around, I absolutely suggest that.  

Now, the best gerbera daisies I have ever seen come from the company Hollandia.  The daisies are big and beautiful, rarely do they come with mold or any other infection on them, and they are strong.  You can get gerbs from other places, but they really aren't as good.  They just don't last as long, and there isn't as good of a selection.  If you can find a florist that deals with Hollandia, I totally recommend that.  It is a little pricier, but you get what you pay for.
