  1. When people stopped using them.  When the cost to operate the train was more than the revenue that was collected from fares.

  2. Indeed, railroading and commuter rail are alive and well here in the U.S., unless you are referring to a particular area/rail line.

  3. After the train crew work 12 hrs, then they are replace and the train can start again.

  4. Er...when they ran out of fuel? When engineers took away their legs and gave them wheels? Seriously, though. Most passenger service declined after WWII ( in the USA ) due to the Interstate Highway system being built. The first parts were opened in the 1950's, and supposedly the last original parts were completed around 1976. There's always supplimental Interstate roads being built now. But back to trains...as better roads were created, passenger service trains declined. It's cheaper still to drive to Florida from Virginia than to take a train ( and WAY cheaper than to load your CAR and you on the train to go to florida! ). If you value the time savings, all good. But 14-18 hours of driving will get you down there, so I'd rather drive than train it. There's still trains around for passengers, just not as common as 30 years ago.

If you're talking about anyplace OTHER than the USA, I don't have a clue about your question.

  5. do i live in hickville? there still are trains here! every day at 2 and 10pm.

  6. Are you trying to imply something, or are you simply ignorant?

Trains continue to carry freight and passengers, and are still the most efficient means of land transportation when compared on the basis of power required to move a given load a given distance.

  7. Er... the last train stops down the road from my house at 12:40am this evening, having carried something like 40,000 people over the course of a day according to a news story on TV the other night.  Where in the world are you?!

  8. More freight tonnage runs in the USA than ever before.  If you mean a specific location, then specify it and I'll see what I can find out
