How do I know when to pick my jalapenos and why are some of them turning red???

  1. Most jalapenos you see at stores and restaurants are immature (green). When it reaches full maturity, it turns red. They are good either way, just try them both ways to see which you prefer. Several tips: If you are wanting a bunch of peppers, pick them green. Once the plant has ripened a pepper to full red, it has served it`s purpose to reproduce and will stop bearing peppers. If you wish to save seeds, and grow them next year, let them turn red. Also, if you roast the red peppers, you make Chipotle!


  2. They are turning red because they are too ripe. Pick them anytime they become a good size for you.
