When is the right time?.......?

I just found out a friend of mines died this morning. I have a large crew of friends that feel like family and he was part of it. We didn't have a real close bond but we hung out numerous times. He was such a good person and always smiled. He was a sweet & kind hearted person. He left a daughter behind. I was also friends with the family. My question is since it his death (car accident) happened last night, when is the right time to call the family, and what should I say aside from giving my condolences?

the right time would be at his funeral, and at that time you might want to stand up front and speak to everyone about your friend and how you feel ,you might see to it that his daughter has the things she needs now and then (a true friend)  being her dad is gone!  I'm very sorry for your loss and wish i had one friend like you in this world , good friends are hard to find. this world was never meant for people as beautiful as your friend

Your condolences and an empathizing ear will be plenty.  Call when you are comfortable calling.  Visit the day before and of the funeral, and encourage them a week later.

Right now, but don't forget the months to come. Bring food and help out around the house. It's hard to cook and clean when you are grieving. Bring his kid something. Give of your time. Get together with your friends and schedule some times to "go help".  Lawns need to be mowed, and trash taken out. It's the little things that help!
