When recycling plastics ?

Do I need to keep number one plastic separate from number two?

You do not have to separate them.  All of the recycling centers in the KC metro area allow you to mix both #1 and #2 plastic as well as cans (steel and aluminum) in one bin.

in gainesville fl we have curb side p/u and we have two bins, one for cans, plastic and glass, the other for newspaper and cardboard boxes, (cereal, pasta)

No. Chuck them all in together.

The numbers tell the recycling centre what the material is.  We just think plastic but....

1—polyethyelene terephthalate (PETE)

2—high-density polyethylene (HDPE)

3—vinyl, polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

4—low-density polyethylene (LDPE)

5—polypropylene (PP)

6—polystyrene (PS)

7—other (includes polycarbonate, acrylic, polylactic acid, fiberglass)

Not all can be recycled and others can but won't be because your country/county/state may not have the facilities to do so.

if you are referring to curb side pick up and if your town collection takes #1 and#2 plastics then yes place them all together along with all the other materials that are collected by your town,However if you have separate bins for each different # then place only the # for the plastic into the bin with the same #
