  1. there is a small program in the us for special cases, in which the federal government prescribes medical marijuana.  this is from a study-level program based out of the university of mississippi.  i know that there is one man who is on this program, and he recieves 300 pre-rolled joints every 25 days.  i beleive the enrollment to sign up for this program was a one time thing and took place back in the early 80's.  however, i cant say i know too much about this program.  you could research it for more information.

in california, and what i believe is the case with most states, patients recieve a doctor's note, and can then visit a medical marijuana dispensary, or they can grow their own. for example, california's law states that patients, or their caretaker, may grow up to 12 plants, with no more than 6 of them being mature at one point. generally, most people use dispensaries.  however, they can't just buy however much they want, i believe (again, in ca) that the limit is no more than 3 ounces per day, and i think it is illegal for patients in ca to be in possession of more than and including 1 ounce.  the laws sound controdictary, and they are.  check me on this information, im not positive.

  2. It's regulated just like any other prescription drug you would receive. They are given a small amount that varies based upon their recommended dosage, and have to go back for refills. They wouldn't let people keep pounds of weed on them
