When to join HSLDA?

Question

My daughter is 4 years old. I keep hearing that it is in my best interest to join HSLDA. But, at what point do you join????? When the child (I only have one) turns 6 and is legally required to attend school?

Any info is appreciated

You can join at any time, we have been members since about 5 years, but have home schooled for many more.

It depends on the state you are in, and how complicated the requirements are.

I do believe that for the nominal fee of joining you can have piece of mind that if you ever need advice, or legal help it is just a phone call away.

Please read up on the truth behind HSLDA before you join.  I have found many members don't know how HSLDA has caused problems for homeschoolers.  It's not really the best thing for you or for homeschooling in general.

I would make sure to see what other causes HSLDA supports before you join them. They lobby for many issues, not just homeschooling, and quite a few of them may not be ones you agree with. Look into it first.

My family is in NJ and we chose to educate ourselves about the homeschooling laws here and did NOT join HSLDA. We have never had a problem, and if we did know enough to protect ourselves.

I'm just guessing here, but based on your other answers in regards to recycling, I'm thinking you might lean to the left. (don't flame me anyone, it's just a guess)
