  1. It was over a sizable period of time.

Moses is credited with writing the first 5 books, but then different authors, ranging from Joshua up to the last OT prophet Malachi, wrote their parts over a period spanning a couple of thousands of years.

  2. Usually after the Prophet gave the commands, did the deed or work, or was commanded to.

  3. The first books, the Torah, was about the year 1512 BC by Moses. He also wrote the account of Job.

The last was one was Malachi, some time after 443 BC. That means it took over 1000 years from the start to the finish.

  4. It varies a lot, and they were written at different time, depending on the book,  and some of the claims of a certain age/time have been revised. But probably from around 13th century BC to 600 BC or so, but some books, like Daniel are very suspicious since they contain "prophecies" where the author claims to be older than he actually is (and thus knew about the events, rather than foretold them).
