When you destroy ant nests?

Is it normal for ants to collect in your basement and hang around until they die?

We had a pretty bad ant infestation this year and so I bought some pesticide and had it applied to the perimeter of the house, spot treating bad nests as necessary. There are no longer ants crawling all over my house thank GOD but now there are ants just hanging out in my basement dying on the floor. There are lots of them down there and it's kind of gross.

Is that normal? Why are they doing that?

I assume you have the Argentinian ant which normally shows up in homes. A nest consists of 2,000,000 ants. So, unless you kill the queen, you still have the nest.

However, I am against killing ants. They are very useful to you.  They clean your environment from dead animals, birds and insects. Rather, use talcum powder whereever they are entering your house. It is safe and effective.

my best suggestion would be to hire an exterminator. i know what your going through because we've been having a wolf spider problem in our apartment. and for them you have to find their nests. pain in the as$. good luck!

a dead or dying ant in a nest is just trash to be discarded...they are probably being thrown out collecting where they fall
