well, the one that sunk the Titanic was in the North Atlantic between London and New York, so they aren't ALL around the North Pole or Alaska or Greenland.

I guess the answer is, they are found as far south as the water currents take them from the northern ice sheets, and as far north as the prevailing currents take them from the sounther ice sheets? They seldom get close to the equator, but it has happened. they are pretty small by then...
