  1. Firest of all, I don't know where ksa is.  Is it a typo for Kansas?

Have you read, rewritten, edited your book?  Have you put it aside for a few months to look at it w/ a fresh eye?  If so, back to editing & rewritting.

If you're satisfied, get the most recent copy of Literary Guides Market & Writer's Market for Fiction.  They list all possible venues, but don't skip the articles.  The entries list contacts & what genre they're accepting & not accepting as well as other qualifications (electronic submission, etc.).

Definitely contact an agent.  Go to Resolved Questions & you'll find many websites guiding you to ones to be beware of.  Get some good books on how to write query letters & book proposals.  You need to be professional.  If you're letter isn't any good, why should the agent expect the book to be?  Don't send directly to the publisher--it will end up in a slush pile.  Don't be naive & "self-copyright" where you mail your manuscript back to yourself.  It doesn't work--once you write it it's yours.  It brands you as an amateur.  Don't call the agent every few days--you'll become a pest.  Wait a reasonable time (the listing may say to expect a reply at a certain time).

No matter where you live, you'll find an agent even if the're a thousand miles away.  Don't forget they have access to e-mail, phone, sax, etc.

Good luck.  It's a daunting task, but exciting.

I know you're excited but this is going to take time.(The names of the 2 books I gave you may be off a little bit.  It's 1 a.m. & I'm not functioning on all cylinders.  Ask a librarian or bookstore associatr)>

  2. Look on the back of any novel. Then it should have the name of the company where the book was pulished. If there is a number listed, call it or you can go online and look for the website.

  3. goldie is correct about the titles for writer's market, etc.  there are a myriad reference titles out there that claim to do the same thing (get you published)- but writer's market, i've found, is the only one worth the 30-40 bucks they cost.  they publish a new one every year and includes agents, small presses, magazines, and gives you a number of essays and articles in the beginning of the book that lays out piece by piece the entire process.  it shares the best ways to write query and submission cover letters.  discusses what not to do, and warns, as i planned on doing, that writing the novel was the easy part- from there you have to be your own agent (until you get one, if you decide to), editor, have to do your own marketing- and yes, edit, edit, edit.  that's one of the biggest problems i find with artists, and why a lot end up mediocre- they cannot throw away their own work; they will sacrifice the end product for pride.  very few can produce something excellent the first time, every time.  you have to give it to a handful of trusted friends who will give you comprehensive constructive criticism- and then edit again.  as far as looking at the back of the book- that is the stupidest thing i've ever heard.  sending anything to a publisher without the steps laid out by the publisher in writer's market- you will get your stuff thrown in the trash without anyone even opening it.  lulu.com and others, are self-publishing- which is expensive.  lulu.com charges you only when people order the book, and you pay per copy, but some will decide what a thousand, or ten thousand, copies cost, and charge you a few grand outright.  every publisher is different- i've spent entire weekends doing nothing but trying to put together submission packages, and it can be pricey.  postage, envelopes, paper, ink, are not cheap when the length and weight of the piece gets to novel size.  guerilla marketing for writers is an invaluable book that helps cut the cost of spreading the word, and a price about a third of writer's market.  but get writer's market.

  4. lulu.com

a friend of mine published his book through them

  5. You can read about the entire publishing process on a writing site i joined called http://chapteread.com
