  1. I love you

  2. It really depends on the ship.  If the ship docks every week or so it is compacted and stored.  If the ship does not dock often the burnable might get burn in an incinerator.  All garbage has to be  accounted for.  The garbage is also sorted and recycled.

  3. On my first ship we had a trash separation room.   A chute in the room for food and paper waste led out to sea where we were allowed to dump stuff when over 25 miles from shore unless in special areas.   Wood and cardboard was dumped over the side when out further than 100 miles.   Plastic was stored in dumpsters on deck and burnt in the incinerator whenever it was working.    The ash had to kept in special containers in a separate room near the incinerator for disposal ashore.

  4. usually in a compartment below decks once the ship is 150 miles form shore they often will dump it over board the distance may be farther than that now in the case of food waste it is the only solution if the ship does not have an incinerator to burn it

  5. There are laws about what can be thrown overboard, where, but much is chopped to a certain size and thrown overboard. No plastic overboard but there is an island of it in the pacific.

  6. bilge tanks below-decks

  7. Thet don't. They throw it overboard to help feed the fish.

  8. it depends on the material - there are distances from US waters that certain materials can be dumped overboard.  plastics, of course can not be dumped overboard and must be deposited on land.   i am sure if you do a USCG search you could find the exact rules.  good luck

BILGE TANKS are for collecting water and run off from the deck or holds or miscellaneous. on bulk carriers, the bilges will collect water that is inherent of the cargo, like wet coal, and during the voyage the water seeps into the bilge and then can be pumped out.
