  1. Canada has oil in Alberta (oil sands) and off the coast of Newfoundland (Hibernia). We extract this oil, refine it in Canada, and sell it to various countries along with using it in Canada.

    Even with these sources, it is actually less expensive to purchase oil from Saudi Arabia and other sources than it is to extract and refine it here. As a result, Canada does import about half the oil it consumes every day.
