Question:

Where have all our skills gone?

We used to make our own food, clothes, tools, etc - now we import everything, most of which is made cheaply by kids getting whipped in sweatshops, while we turn into computer drones and complain about parking metres and 'chronic fatigue.'

  1. LALALA WOWOWOW LALALA WOWOWOW

  2. Outsourcing.

  3. What's the problem with that? I didn't know what to do when my mom explained to me how the world works, but aspiring to change it helps for now. I don't actually whine about the miniscule things in a modern country because I know there are less fortunate people. Live with it for now until we can actually change a bigger part of it all.

  4. I still do have those skills. We import things just because they are cheaper if you send it overseas. Furthermore, even though it may sound cruel, kids go to sweatshops for a reason. They don't have any other means of living in the environment they live in. Sure, it's a horrible, demeaning, and should not be allowed, but if we don't import things, these kids will be out of work and their families might starve.

  5. We have moved from a labour-based society to an information-based society.

You can start learning how to do it for yourself again right now.

Learn now while you still can. Read up on the internet, there are tons of free articles on all of those subjects. Learn how to grow your own vegetables, start a fire by rubbing sticks together, etc. You are going to need it.... things are going downhill fast and it might be your only chance for survival someday. Keep in shape.... be able to run at least a few miles nonstop with a full backpack on your back.

  6. TECHNOLOGY.

  7. We may not like like but unfortunately that's just the way the world works now.

  8. What happened is that the manufacturers realised that they could make a larger profit by taking the work out of the UK as the employers in these other countries were willing to work for less money. It is all part of industrialisation.

  9. I would guess part of the reason, that a lot of our "old world" skills don't exist anymore, is people don't have the time to engage in them. Now you need 2 paychecks to support a family. With everybody working we need the faster way to get things. I wish I had the time to sew, garden, craft, excetera.

  10. Speak for yourself!..

  11. Have you read Brave New World, by Huxley?

Edit: Doing all that stuff yourself takes a lot of time, you wouldn't have access to a computer (much less a house, car, air conditioning, etc) if you had to make your own clothes and grow your own food.
