  1. Hamburg

  2. If you want mountains, I would recommend that you cross over into Austria and live in Salzburg.  I loved it there.  If you want to visit, may I recommend Hotel Doktorwirt.

In Germany, München (Munich) is great for museums and Oktoberfest.

  3. Saarland? close to the borders with both Luxembourg and France, beautiful countryside, good transport links. Saarbrucken is a nice city, as is Trier which can be reached nearby

  4. no where don't go

  5. Munich is a really beautiful city, with a lot of fun culture, and interesting architecture.  It is also just a train ride from Paris, Vienna, Zurich, Milan, etc.  You could spend a day looking at the Nymphenburg Palace, or drinking beer at the very chill pagoda in the English garden.

There are also several really nice towns in Bavaria that have nice mountain views.  We were just in Fussen (2h by train from Munich), which is located very near the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, both of which are incredibly beautiful.  The town is very cute as well; there are some good restaurants and shops, its own castle (!) and a waterfall.  When we were there, there was a marathon going on; shows that the town is health-conscious!

I agree with other posters that Austria is also great.  Vienna has a better art/music scene than munich (in my opinion), and architecture to rival Paris.  Salzburg is quaint and gorgeous, if touristy.  You should take a trip to Europe to "research"!

  6. if you want mountains, i say that southern germany is the way to go.

you'll have the beautiful bavarian alps!

    munich is a really place.

hamburg is also nice. i have never been there but i've only heard good things about it from people who have. i think thats where you could get your fix on museums and art galleries.

    i hope i helped!

i will be an exchange student to germany from america next year

  13. I served in the RAF in Germany for three years in the late sixties, I love the country and have been back many times on holidays.

When I was stationed there, we used to do a lot of camping and the area we loved the most was the Eifel region, on the border of Belgium and Luxembourg.

It's not far from Koblenz and the Rhine, it's really beautiful and it's where I would choose if I lived there.

  14. Munich.
