  1. If you know exact titles, then places like eBay or vegsource.com can be good.  Sometimes if you try on eBay for "7th grade math" or some other such title, you can come up with decent books.  But, you can't get teacher's editions on eBay any more, so fewer homeschoolers use them than used to.

If you don't know specific book titles you'd be interested in, you might try looking for homeschool support groups in your area.  They often have used curriculum sales around this time of the year; those can be good since you can see the books, look through them, to see if they look good to you.  And you can get some real deals.  Also, you can talk to other homeschoolers and get their ideas about books that are good and ideas for local sources of books.

If you have a lot of time to spend looking, you can try thrift stores and such.  Some in our area will carry textbooks.

Or try joining your local chapter of Freecycle.org and ask if anyone has old ones that they want to get rid of.  Or join your local chapter of Craigslist.com and ask if anyone near you has any to give away or sell.

Some schools will give away or sell textbooks that they don't want.  We've gotten some beat-up old books this way, but have also gotten some brand new, never used books, too.

Or you could choose a different route. Perhaps buy a 7th grade math book and then do the rest of the subjects based on library books and internet research.  You can learn a great deal this way, reading and coming up with fun projects to learn.  And it can be a whole lot cheaper.  (If you're worried about what to cover, you can check at www.worldbook.com under "typical course of study" for ideas of what topics to cover.)

Or do some online searches for different homeschooling publishers.  I know that a couple of them spend part of the summer going around to different hotels in our state, hosting displays of their materials for any homeschoolers to come and view (and get discounts on if they purchase the materials there).  Or some people go to state homeschooling conferences that will have several textbook publishers there showing their books.

Or do an online search for homeschool materials.  There are a lot of vendors who sell books online or who will send you free catalogs, if you request them.

Or there are lots of Yahoogroups that are only for buying and selling homeschool curriculum and materials.  You just have to be willing to take a chance since the lists don't have all the safeguards in place that eBay has.

Hope you find something that works for you.

  4. You might want to try Connect the Thoughts Curriculum.

    http://connectthethoughts.net/home.php

It is an exceptional curriculum that is suitable for ages 11 through Adult.  Each "course" is available separately so you only have to buy the ones you want right now.   They are very reasonable priced and are sold as e-books, so that they can be downloaded immediately.  They are available on:

    currclick.com

I am planning to use many of the courses for my dd(14).  She has started with the Creative Writing and it is amazing!

You might want the check out the Yahoo Group for Connect the Thoughts too.  There is a link to it on the CTT website.

    Best of luck!

  5. Depends on what you're looking for. It's not like there's a set of gr. 7 books for all homeschoolers everywhere. You need to know what you're looking for and possibly purchase from a variety of companies.

If you don't specifically know what you are looking for, try doing a search for _homeschool resources_ and start with that. There are lots and lots and lots of companies.

  6. Besides Rainbow Resource Center that has been mentioned (ordering $300 from them today), try these:

    http://www.cbd.com (new)

    http://www.libraryanded.com (new - sells wholesale to HS'ers)

    http://www.homeschoolbuy.com (auction)

    http://www.vegsource.com/homeschool/ (used)

    http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org (group buys, discounts, classifieds)

http://www.paperbackswap.com (more than paperbacks - and all sorts of curricula...for free!)
