Question:

Where to go in Italy?

I would like to rent a villa for a week this summer in Italy with a few friends. I've been to Florence, Rome and Venice, and am looking for something different. The countryside would be nice, but something not too far from a city. Charming, rustic, beautiful, with a lot of history to it. Any suggestions? Umbria sounds interesting, but I don't know much about it. Thanks!

  1. It must be nice to be able to go places like that..    hope you have a great time, and remember to think about uslittle people who have never got to leave this usa. place im in..    let me out. let me out.   lol

  2. Sienna! If your into gothic buildings and the countryside, then you'll love Sienna. It's got mountains, beautiful views, great stores, farm land , a little castle village in the outskirts of the city(I can't remember the name though).lol

Also, Bari. That's were my family is from. It's not that big, and not that pretty, but to me it is. It's not Venice or Rome, it's kind of it's own style.

Oh, and Taranto. It's not too far from Bari, and it's BEAUTIFUL! If you like the beach and the ocean its a great place to go and see. It was fun swimming in the sea.

    Have fun in Italy!☼

  3. The Cinque Terre region is beautiful.  It's close to Milano and Genoa so there is plenty to do.

  4. i'd go to sicily, where you can find a bit of everything; beach , culture and fun! great people, great food!

  5. I live in the north east part of italy. Castellano, its 30 mins from the city Rovereto and 40 mins from a bigger city Trento. Its 2 hours from Venice. we have lots of wine vineyards and need help harvesting in september, wanna help? i dont know much about renting villas, but i can say that summer isnt the best time. buisness's are closed and airfare is expensive. fall is great. Anywhere you go, you can take a train. I also reccomend Pisa, its a little boring if your looking for nightlife but it is beautiful. email me if you have more questions

  6. Montemaggiorre, Sicily, Italy is a good place to visit. Everyone in that part is welcoming. It's the country side like you said you would like to visit, but is still near the city.

  7. In the summer of 2005, my family stayed in a wonderful villa in Monticiano, Italy in Tuscany.  It was a beautiful small town in the Tuscan countryside less than 1 hour from Siena and the Chianti region.  From here you can take many day trips to Siena, San Gimigniano, Volterra, Massa Maritima, Montalcino, Pienza, Monticpulciano, Monteriggioni, Cortona - all of which I highly recommend.  You can even walk to the famous ruins of San Galgano!  All of these towns will make you forget about the hustle and bustle of your regular daily life and bring you to a quieter, more peaceful time.

The link to the villa we stayed at is here: http://www.rentvillas.com/PropertyDetail...  This particular villa is very inexpensive (only about US$800 per week in the high summer season).  For a family of 4, you can easily pay about €150-200 per night for a quad hotel room.  Here, for about US$100 a night, you get about 1000 square feet of space - a full 2 bedroom apartment!  Even if this villa doesn't excite you, check a little deeper on the rentvillas.com site and you'll see there are many other choices...

    Good luck!

  8. Hi,I'm Italian and I live in Milan. If you wanna pass a great vacation with your friends in a villa, you should go to Toscana but this is a place of farm holidays and in that period (especially in july and august) I think you should go to a place near the see because it's too hot (from the north of Italy,to the south)...about 100-104 °F. The best see are Ionio and Mediterraneo that are situated in the south of Italy (Calabria,Sicilia and Sardegna).Have a good holiday!

  9. well i think verona would be beatiful, or maybe torino

  10. Umbria is very beautiful.

But for change why you don' t go in Sardinia: the beautiful island at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea.

The people is very friendly, the food is wonderful and healthy, Many dishes are based on the wide variety of fish and sea food available or you can have meat, wherever you like.

The beach are very beautiful, the water is so clean and transparent, you can choose  sand, rock or little white stones, Sardinia has beaches for all tastes.

You can find Historical places too.

  11. You could try the Isle of Capri or anywhere along the Amalfi Coast (such as Positano)

  12. Me and my family own a Villa in the country side above the Adriatic Sea that we rent out for the summer months. Its called 'Sole Bello Residence' and is located in the

town of Morro D'Alba with easy access to and

from the airport of Falconara, Ancona.

It's just ten minutes from the beach town

of Senigallia in the heart of the Marche

Region and bordering the Tuscany and

    Umbria Regions.

    Surrounded by vineyards and medieval

fortress hill towns, it's the perfect location

for experiencing Italy at its finest.

  13. I just took a trip to Florence. We rented a car and drove 15 miles out on the SS2 (road between Florence and Sienna) to the countryside (TUSCANY) we rented a villa at Fattoria di Rignana located just uphill of the Tuscan town of Greve Tuscany. It easy to get there from Florence. The villa is located in a beautiful mountain looking over the Chianti Classico Sangiovese Vineyards and a ancient monastery called Baddia di Passignano. This is an expectacular area to enjoy with friends and enjoy freedom of city life. This is also the place to be if you enjoy wine. Hope you have much fun...wherever you decide to go. But remember always prepare yourself for the unexpected make sure you do alot of research before you go out to the country. Enjoy!

  14. I have lived in Italy for nearly ten years and would really recommend Piedmont or le Marche.  Piedmont is absolutely gorgeous and a lot of it is virtually undiscovered. Somewhere in the countryside  around Saluzzo would fit your description exactly as would somewhere near Urbino  in le Marche.  My site http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-... might give you a few ideas and you are always welcome to contact me for some of my personal recommendations.

  15. you have to go to Taormina in sisely.... its my most favorite place in italy and has a lot of history about it and you also have to go to reggio di calabria!!!! and when you go make sure you eat swordfish its the best!!
