  1. Hobart offers the best choice of schools, facilities and employment, places like Margate, Cambridge, Collinsvale are all less than 30 minutes commute to the CBD in peak hour with a mix of farms and houses on large blocks, or a bit further out Huonville,New Norfolk or the Coal River valley area (which includes Richmond). There are lots of bushland suburbs too like Fern Tree, and Lenah valley still contains lots of market gardens.

  2. Definitely around the Hobart area, as already mentioned, drive half an hour in almost any direction and you can enjoy the agricultural lifestyle and still have the benefits of of being close to a city or near the water.  There are plenty of vineyards and farms out towards Cambridge/Richmond way and similarly down the Huon Valley, beautiful peaceful area with lots of orchards.  You don't have to go far from Hobart to have the best of both worlds!
