Question:

Where to move in coastal Maine?

I grew up in New England and I am considering a move back to the area. I would like to find an area north of Portland on or close to the coast. Lots of outdoors activities, but not entirely away from civilization. A town/city with a lot going on, but not with the big city problems. Taxes are no problem, because where I live now are some of the highest in the country. I don't mind snow (grew up with it), but the less the better.

  1. I was looking into Maine as a potential relocation area but have ultimately decided against it.

While I was looking though I had my eye on Yarmouth. While not a big city (somewhere around 10,000 people) it is only about 15 minutes from Portland (Maine's biggest town) and 15-20 minutes away from the coast around it. I would say that even though you grew up in New England I'm pretty sure Maine winters are a lot worse than what's seen in the more inland states. It may be something to consider. Also, while not as expensive as New York, Boston, or like areas, Maine is by no means cheap. It looked to be about on the national average.

Hopefully someone actually from Maine can provide you with a little more detail but you should check out city-data.com. It will provide you with a ton of information and links about a handful of Maine's cities.

    Good luck.
