Where to stay in Cancun?

Question

My friend and I are going to Cancun for two weeks later this year. The plan is to sunbake and party the whole time, is the hotel zone within walking distance to clubs, bars etc. We kinda suck at figuring out the whole public transport thing after a few drinks.

The last answer is excellent, my only 2 cents: All Inclusive.  Free drinks and Free Food are the best.  The food is sometimes "eh.." but the fact that its free makes it waaay better.  Enjoy!

We stayed at Dreams Resort in Cancun and we loved the resort. It's an all-inclusive and the food is good. It's located at the top of the 7 (Hotel zone shaped like a 7)  and it's close to all the clubs and shopping. An added bonus to this resort is they have dolphins on property and you can swim with them. If you go, stay in the pyramid rooms and you can get a front row seat to the dolphins at play.

This question is easy to answer, because Cancun is a simple place to figure out. Think of the Hotel Zone, the area with the major resorts, as an island that is shaped like the number 7. Most of the party scene happens in the area known as the Party Center, located at the top right part of the 7. The Hotel Zone is broken down into Kilometers, and the Party Center is at Km 9. Buses run the length of the Hotel Zone, into the area know as Centro, which is Downtown. Before I confuse you any more than I may have already, don't worry. If you want to stay in a hotel that is close to the Party Center, within walking distance, that is a simple way of being able to keep things... simplified. The only decision you will need to make is if you want to stay at an All-Inclusive resort where all your drinks and room are included in the pre-paid price, or a European Plan resort where what you get for the money is your room. Here are a few suggestions to consider:

Presidente Intercontinental-both choices to stay EP or AI, moderately priced resort, located at Km 7.

Riu Palace Las Americas-high end AI resort, located at Km 8.5, you can use the facilities of the slightly lesser priced sister resort Riu Cancun.

Riu Cancun-This is a lively AI hotel, next door to the RPLA at Km 8.5, roughly.

Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach-VERY high end EP resort located at Km 8.9 across from the Party Center.

Dreams Resort-AI resort with a dolphin swim program right on premises, located at Km 8.9 at Punta Cancun.

Hyatt Regency-moderately priced EP resort, no beachfront here is the drawback but very modern rooms and amenities with great on site restaurants, Km 8.9 next door to the,

NH Krystal-moderately priced AI and EP resort, small beach with wonderful restaurants and an innovative Dine Around program, allowing AI guests to eat off premises at participating restaurants.

Sunset Royal-AI resort, moderately priced and located at Km 9.5, roughly, within walking distance of the Party Center.
