Question:

Where to stay in Jamaica?!?

My boyfriend and I are thinking about staying somewhere in Jamaica at the end of August (I know not the best season but the prices are right). I want to stay away from the AI and touristy resorts... we're thinking small, clean, family run hotels. We were considering Negril but are open to suggestions. Has anyone stayed in Negril, or other less known cities, that you would recommend? Beaches are not necessary... I would rather be near horseback riding and the forrest. Thanks!!!

  1. Sandals Resort in Negril ! There's this place called Rick's Cafe where you can go cliff diving into the water !

Top 10 Things To Do In Negril :

    1. Appleton Estate Tour

    2. Cliff Jumping

    3. Diving and Snorkeling

    4. Horseback Riding

    5. Lighthouse Climbing

    6. Royal Palm Reserve

    7. Touring the South Coast

    8. Sunset Cruises

    9. Sunset Watching

    10. Waterfalling

  2. If I were you, I go about 25 miles away to San Pedro, Belize... way less tourists- you can snorkle the reef, visit Mayan ruins or pick up conch shells along the coast w/out all the cost

  3. i've been to ocho rios. its nice, as long as you arent near the poorer area....which is full of people who try to steal your stuff. we went horseback riding and wear near the mountains. it was very pretty and warm.

  4. HALF MOON RESORT IN MONTEGO BAY it was the best trip of my life

  5. Normally I don't answer touristy questions, (because  I usually can't help very much) but I realize after reading the responses that you have only received a few sensible responses, so here goes:

Strawberry hill, Blue Mountains: I don't think there is horse back riding there, but that is a small hotel in our famous Blue mountains, a place filled with exotic plants, birds etc. It's very cool up there and quiet, to some extent. It might be a bit costly though.

Port Antonio - A nice quite place, definitely not touristy, check the link below:

Treasure beach, "St. Bess" (St. Elizabeth)

As for Horse Back Riding, Chukka Cove, St Ann's Bay (near Ocho Rios) is the place to go. Not sure of the hotels there but I believe there is an independent Company that does that kind of thing. Check with the hotels you plan to stay at, like Sunflower beach resort: http://www.qwikcast.com/hotelsearch/hote...

I know there are a lot more, just can't give them to you right now. Just explore the sites I gave you. And PLEASE don't believe the c**p people come on here and preach - Tourists are MORE than safe here (more safe than us locals in fact), you and your boyfriend will be fine, because we LOVE tourists. Jamaica isn't any worse than anywhere else in the world. All you have to do is exercise your God-given common sense, just like you would when you are home/elsewhere.

    All the best!

  6. Stay in Jake's Resort in Treasure beach if you want that country feeling...really nice

  7. ehh ma playboy, all ya can come ova to ma house y'know,I live down negril beachside bya all them ripoff hotals, yknow u can elways give me a call money, 375-456-4567. Aight me w8 fo u at ma crib.

  8. Treasure Beach and Port Antonio/Portland are two of the less known towns in Jamaica that have nice beaches and good villas. There are a lot of good resorts there too. http://www.listjamaica.com/hotels has a list of hotels and contact information for places in both areas and links to their site. You can also check out http://www.treasurebeach.net

They are very homey places and I am sure you will enjoy them. There are also many nice sincere attractions in the vicinity of both places.

  9. Take it from a Jamaican, go to Negril not as heavily tourist attraction like other places but its still safe and friendly, I go there about every two years.

  10. It is not safe there and that is why all the hotels are big. They keep the people on the grounds this way.

If you want to stay in a smaller hotel with the same tropical thing..riveria miya, mexico. Safe and has some nice small hotels. romantic, remote, QUIET!

  11. check out www.treasurebeach.net

A previous poster said to stay at Jakes Resort. This is a very nice hotel but expensive and not family owned. This botique hotel is owned by a chain of little villas hotels. We stay at Vikings House in Great Bay. It is family owned and operated, clean and inexpensive. The people who live in this area are very friendly and always willing to help. Explore this website and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

  12. y jamaica

    i would go to cambodia
