Question:

Where to stay in Philly?

There are so many options in the travel guides for hotels in Philly its hard to choose without seeing them. Can anyone who knows the city very well recommend the best hotels in the areas that a visitor would want to be in? It looks like we are leaning towards Rittenhouse Sq. for location. I am traveling with a toddler so some of the trendier boutique hotels and B&B's aren't really an option.

  1. the closest I came to Philly was Lancaster where i took my kids to dutch wonderland . It's about 30 miles out of the way of Philly , We stayed at the marriot , wasn't bad ...wasn't great either , but we didn't have a lot money .

  2. If you're leaning towards the Rittenhouse Square area I would recommend  the Radisson-Warwick. The Warwick is fairly affordable and just finished a major remodel. It's one block off of the square which would be nice for walks with the little one. Check out Parc, a new restaurant around the corner from the Warwick (right across from the square)...great French bistro-style menu, moderately priced. Have fun!

    ** live/work in downtown Philly

  3. Although it's not in Rittenhouse, I would consider the Holiday Inn Historic District, 4th and Arch.  It's usually fairly reasonable, and a short walk to most of the historic attractions, if that is your thing.  The Sheraton Society hill is in that area as well.

If you don't mind a smaller room, and are looking for something closer to the museums, check out the Club Quarters, which has good weekend rates.

Finally, I might suggest the embassy suites or residence inn, the extra space with a toddler is a godsend.  They are both a little more pricey, the RI is near city hall (pretty much between historic and museums) and the Embassy is closer to the museums.

Any of these hotels has a good reputation, I've personally stayed at the Holiday Inn and Embassy Suites and would have no problems staying there again.

Note that if you are here before the end of Sept, the Phlash shuttle is available, a cheap bus that runs in a loop between all the major attractions.

  4. I haven't been to Philly for some time but I used to stay at the Marriott right downtown near the farmers market. It's close to everything.
