  1. Those irons are alright but are made for high handicappers. The "grooves" on the club face are important for spin control. I think those callaways have "v grooves" which look like this (<) from the side. Most pros use "square grooves" which look like this ( [ ). Square grooves grip the ball more and create more spin. If you are seriously considering college golf then you should go for a forged blade with square grooves. Most blades have square grooves. I would go for titleist or mizuno. Good luck.

  2. ok first of all i played with a boxed set until i was a senior. i can't believe your even looking at those irons. your spoiled.

  3. Sorry, but this is something you'll have to do on your own.  Confidence in your clubs is very important.  They gotta feel good in your hands, and be fit properly (length, lie angle and flex) to your body and swing.

Go to your local pro shop or someplace like Golf Galaxy and swing as many brands of clubs as you can.  You'll know when you've found the right club.  Don't focus on brands.  The Pro or a competent salesman can give you tips based on how you want a shot to feel, or if you like playing certain types of shots, but you're the one swinging the club- it's gotta feel good to you.  Have patience, and good luck in college!

  4. callaway is a good club but there are others you should look at such as "ping" among others. just make sure you get a pro line club and ask a local pro at a golf course what kind of shaft you need and compare swing weigh of clubs.  also the compression of the ball you use is important.  you pobably need a 90 compression but talk to the pro--it's free

  5. Dude, if you have found something that works for you then nothing else should matter.  Personally, I don't like the shape of most Callaway irons with the exception of the X-forged.  Since you asked, there are the Ping G10 which are slated for someone of your handicap as well as the Nicklaus High CT, or the Cleveland CG Gold.

  6. Go to a well-stocked pro shop, or a superstore like GolfSmith or Golf Galaxy and hit a bunch of clubs. Try every brand they've got. You may find that the one that you like best is one that you've not previously considered, or even one of the major brands (I have a fondness for Tour Edge, for example).

Even better: get fitted for clubs by a professional clubfitter.

  7. It really depends but if you like those you should check out some game improvements. But if you're looking into playing in college get some custom fitted clubs like they said and try some more "player's" club as you want to learn how to shape your shots and get better control.
