Question:

Which UK city to live in?

I am moving in with a friend in September & we don't know where we should live! We went to university in South Wales (but really don't want to stay there!) & our families are between Bath & Birmingham. We are both thinking we would prefer to move North, but which city? I am thinking Sheffield or Newcastle...we've just finished uni & have no commitments so we can literally move anywhere.

What cities can anyone reccomend? Neither of us can drive so public transport will need to be readily available, we want a medium-sized city, not too expensive but not a dive, & clean! Preferably with bookshops, vintage clothes shops, indie/rock clubs/pubs/bars, & coffee houses!

  1. How about Oxford. It's a student town, but that can be a down-side.

Chester is interesting and lively without being typically

    "northern".

Leeds is "proper northern" as is Bradford where ethnic diversities can be found.

Or what about that area from the Potteries across to Nottingham. Not too far from Birmingham or Bath, but plenty of towns to peruse until you find one that feels right.

    Good luck!

  2. Sheffield cuz Def Leppard from there and I think it'd be so cool.

  3. I live in Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire but Im originally from Swindon in Wiltshire

  4. Nottingham! Notts has the biggest Rock club in the UK, plus a few indie clubs and loads of bars. Loads of vintage shops as well!

People talk about the crime rates in notts as being bad, but I've lived here my whole life and never experienced any of it, and I go out a lot.

and now they've done up the city centre it's pretty nice and clean, good shops etc.
