Im completely dependent on scholarships, but which college would be more affordable and has better campus life, and a better educational experience. Im leaning towards engineering or maybe becoming a history teacher, or lawyer. Or CSI. I know im completely undecided. But I'm only a Junior in high school. please try to keep your bias towards your home school out of this. University of Michigan, Michigan State, or University of Kentucky. (I live in Detroit, my mom lives in Lexington, Ky)

  1. universities are not the same so it is very very important to know the; strengths , weaknessess, opportunities and threats (swot) analyis of each university. choose a university that offers excellent support to students that aim to teach and improve the skills of personal excellence ie: metaknowledge skills that improve your ability to learn how to learn.  that is if you want meaningful learning or whether you prefer rote learning in order to just pass exams ... remember that it's your future were talking about

i dont know what country you come from but in australia there is very little information you can access to analyse a universities performance. as a guide i recommend that you find out these points before making a decision.

    1. how are subjects structured

    2. what student support services do they provide

    3. how do they assess and mark

    4. what model of teaching do they encourage

    5. what performance excellence programs do they offer

    6. do they demonstrate flexibility or are they black and white

    7. what excellence means to them

    8. how much of the course is theory  vs prac

    9. do they have a high alumni retention rate and why

    10. who are the lecturers and what are they like as teachers and facilitators

  2. Out of the three, University of Michigan is definitely where you would get the best educational experience.  The campus life is probably comparable at all three.

Have you looked at any of the campus rankings?  Princeton Review (review.com) has some.  US News & World Report has some also.

They would give you a standardized score to compare all three in a relative fashion.  Of course, those ratings should be taken with a grain of salt.

If you're serious about any of these schools, you should really visit.  There is no substitute for an in-person visit.  Sounds like you should also be paying attention to average financial aid and other related stats for each of those schools.

  3. Absent the mega, full-ride scholarships, which you should pursue, out-of-state tuition is just a killer to the cost of a college education. If you live in Michigan, and money is a huge factor, you should limit your search to state schools in MIchigan. If Ann Arbor or Mich. State don't work out, you should remember that where you go to undergrad does not dictate the rest of your life.

Try for the best, but if you do your best, the best things will happen wherever you end up.

  4. Michigan is much better than Michigan State which in turn is much better then Kentucky.

You don't need to decide what to do yet -- but you should realize that to become a lawyer you need a bachelor's degree first, and then need to go to law school for three years.

Many of the better private universities give generous aid packages, so you may not need to restrict yourself to public universities.
