I am on the hunt to buy a waverunner but would like to know which are the ones that last the longest? I know it depends how the pwc is maintained and ridden but I heard kawasakis last less than yamaha.

Which PWC is the cheapest to fix up and maintain and which one is the most expensive?

  1. I own an '89 Kawasaki 650sx stand up, and a 96 Yamaha Waveblaster 701.  Both are very reliable.  It's amazing how long two stroke engines last, since they're lubricated top and bottom, much like a diesel engine.  The most important thing when looking for an older ski is to make sure it hasn't been modified.  We always say that once you start wrenching on them, you never stop.  This is not to say I don't reccomend modifying them; both of my skis are highly modified, and very fun.  I do reccomend starting with a stocker, rather than inheriting someone elses problems.  AS far as brands go, Kawi and Yamaha are both very reliable, with Seadoo being a little less so, and Polaris and Tigershark not very reliable at all.  As far as newer skis go,  all of the four strokes have proven to be very reliable, with the exception of Honda, which has had a lot of turbo problems.  This is mostly due to people shutting them off hot, though, not letting the turbo cool down.

  2. I prefer Yamaha.
