Which city in Australia....?

Question

My wife and I will be moving to Australia in 4 months time, into which city would you say it's easier to settle,

taking into account:

Climate, cost of living, cost of housing, availability of work, lifestyle etc.

I reckon Perth's the best, has good climate, cheap and low cost of living with a high standard of living, only problem is after you get out of the city kinda feels a little isolated from the rest of the country. But it's a beautiful city.

I grew up in Sydney so i'm gonna be more critical of it ut it has a High Cost of living, Housing is BLOODY expensive if you want to be CLOSE to downtown, but Lifestyle is swanky and availability to work is good especially if you have a good resume. Climte is war all year round and lots of things to see and do there

Climate, well that depends where you are coming from.  Sydney is the most expensive place to live in Australia, but it also has the better paid jobs.

It depends on what skills you have and how much space you want around your house.  kids no kids, etc etc.  Sydney is really fast, Melbourne also, Brisbane and Perth more space and slower lifestyle.

It depends a bit on what sort of job you will be doing, and what sort of lifestyle and climate you would like. If you want to settle down and live a family kind of life inexpensively I would say Adelaide. If you want a lot of fun and excitement there would be better options. Adelaide has a fairly dry climate, warm to hot in summer and cool in winter. Sydney and Brisbane are more humid, some people prefer this. Brisbane's winters are definately warmer. Adelaide's cost of living is low and there are excellent facilities and less traffic than other cities. There is a fair bit of work available in all Australian cities, but some cities are better for some jobs.

hi i would say that it is easiset to settle into perth. my auntie and uncle moved out there 2 weeks ago and settled in within a couple of days. my cousins are happy in their new schools and my auntie and uncle have found well paying jobs. however, you will need to rent a place and live in australia for at least 12 months before you are classed as a resident of australia and can buy a house. it is easy for jobs, they are well paying too. you have to pay for everything medical or dental. it is quite cheap but it depends where in perth you go tbh. good luk and let me no how u get on x*x

Definitely somewhere in Queensland. It's the best State in the best Country in the whole world. You should live somewhere in Brisbane cause its close to everything including the Gold Coast which has awesome theme parks and a great beach dude

It does come down to what type of work you are looking for and perhaps the type of climate you prefer, and whether you are looking to live in a large or a smaller city. Sydney and Melbourne have close to 4 million people (Sydney +4mil), and have all the pros and cons that come with living in large cities, Melbourne has the coolest climate of the mainland capitals, were Sydney has a warm mild climate, though rather humid in summer. The other mainland capitals, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide have smaller populations ranging from 1.7m to 1.1 mil people, Brisbane has a humid subtropical climate were Perth and Adelaide have a mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and cool wet winters.

Australians tend to be rather parochial about where they live so it can be a little hard to gauge from people's feedback, as we often tend to think out city is the “best” and more often than not that’s why they live there. Boyne Island, Tannum Sands - Queensland, Australia.  Climate is the best in all of Australia, cost of living is cheaper than the big cities, cost of housing is ok, availability of work is endless, lifestyle is laid back and relaxing.  Great place for kids, great schools, both primary and high school.  University nearby in Gladstone.

Where will you be moving from ?

Housing costs can vary substantially between different areas, for example, many Sydney areas are cheaper than some Brisbane areas.

Perth is very popular with the British, some areas of Sydney are very popular amongst Filipinos, and if you look at the 2000 postcode area of Sydney, the largest overseas born group are the Chinese.

The cost of living, if you exclude housing is actually very similar in most major residential areas of the country.

Climate-wise, Tasmania is similar to the UK.  Some parts of Brisbane in the summer may be a bit hot for the average Brit, but would be perfect for some other nationalities.

Availability of work ?  Pretty similar in most areas, but it does depend on what you do.  However, unemployment is beginning to rise, who knows what the future holds.

Lifestyle ?  I Iike a nice quiet, relaxed lifestyle, but not everyone does, and may not agree with my area of choice. ;)
