  1. The entire Underground system uses electricity.


  2. When originally constructed, the Underground lines used steam and the tube lines used electricity. There was one section of line that used cable.

    Today, the entire system is powered by electricity. (Workmen's trains used when the current is disconnected are powered by batteries).

    London Transport had their own generating station at Lots Road. But this was sold when the Underground switched to taking electricity supplies from the National Grid.
