Which is a better computer option?

My sister is looking to get a computer. She is wondering if she should get a desktop and get DSL/cable by modem or a laptop with a wireless PC card. She lives alone so she'll be the only user. Which is a better option? Why?

depends on what she wants

desktop are more upgradeable more powerful and i would go with DSL.

Laptop you can take anywhere but your screen is smaller and your sound will not be as good with out external speakers. You are very limited to what you can upgrade later. Even if she goes wireless she will need a IP provider unless she knows someone with a wireless router in her area that its strong enough for piggy backing but also be aware they can shut off there router or signal  at any time losing your connection and have you searching for a new one if you can find a strong one close.

laptop ==>  mainly for its ability to be used anywhere other than on a desk or a table....handy to take anywhere she needs to work on a document she has stored or needs to access the Internet while away from home.  Runs on a battery when there is no electrical outlet in the immediate vicinity.  A desktop model is good if you never go anywhere nor move around the house.  But for the active person, a laptop makes much more sense because of its versatility.

a labtop cuz she can take it on the run and get one of those lil wireless things i forgot wat there called and u can have web access anywhere

well she should get the laptop, but instead of the overpriced cell phone network internet its better that she gets cable or fios internet with a wireless router, plus there is free wifi all over the place nowadays so its likely that she will be able to connect outside her place and in most public places(mall, library etc...). paying 80 bucks a month for slow 768kbps cell phone network internet doesnt make any sense unless shes a business person who only wants to send email or something.

desktop for sure.....alot more stable and secure and upgradeable......you can just do a whole lot more with a desktop.......dsl is good and on regards to the wireless laptop card...you need a router anyway which would require a desktop hooked up to a modem and the modem hooked up to a router

desktop is the obvious choice
