Which is better LCD or Plasma?

why... and also why people asy Plasma tv's are not good...?

PLASMA. amazing picture, trust me.

but, plasmas are more expensive because they have plasma in the picture, there's literally a liquid inside your TV screen.

and what's bad is that, they heat up fast so if you leave them on long they get very hot.

also, after maybe 6 years, plasma starts disappearing, kind of.

the corners of the TV sort of, turn blue ?

and then you have to send your television off to a company so they can fill it up with more plasma.

but, it still has a better picture than LCD.

but, if you want a cheaper, less high maintenence television, i would go with LCD , they're still good.

this is so because plasma tvs dont last as long as lcd tvs do. also, they burn in, and there will permananetly be an embedded image in the tv screen. Like if the cnn logo on the tv stays there too long, there is a great chance that it might burn in, or the pause screen of a video game. it is a hassle and you cannot use your tv freely as you would like. They deliver the same video quality as an lcd so why not lcd??Lcd tvs also come in flat panels as mne did so there is virtually no difference in what the tv physically looks like either.

LCD (Liquid Cristal Display) is the new technology, it has a 20 years life expectancy, HD ready, also it looks better, but it is more expensive.

Plasma is an old technology based on using a light reflecting gas, has a lower life expectancy, it has a lower display quality but it is cheaper than LCD.

My personal choice was SONY bravia 46”.

I would go with LCD. Plasma tv's are criticised because they have have to be kept upright, if they are laid flat in transit then the gases muck up. Also they are subject to image burn in which is where if you pause a movie or game for a while and the picture is still the image could burn in to the screen for ever.

LCD on the other hand has millions of tiny pixels that work independently. The chances of a pixel dying is minimal.

LCD has now overtaken plasma, good quality LCDs anyway.

Plasma as a technology has peaked and is now on the way out, the TVs are very heavy and use LOADS of electricity. They do have a great picture though.

As I have said before, I am always stunned by the amazing ignorance shown by some people on this subject.  I truly can't fathom why they bother answering with such a load of ill-informed, misguided rubbish.

1)  Plasma TVs do NOT contain liquid.  Plasma is a gaseous material.

Do you know what the 'L' in LCD stands for?  That's right, 'liquid'.  Now think about that for a moment...

2)  Plasma TVs do NOT get hot.  My plasma runs cooler than my old CRT television did - nobody ever said they got too hot, did they?

3)  The picture quality on modern plasma TV will last as long as an LCD (about 60,000 hours of normal use).

4)  Plasma TVs cannot be re-gassed.  Buy since they last for around 60,000 hours, you wouldn't need to, even if you could.

5)  A 37" LCD television draws about 200 watts.  A 37" plasma television draws about 250 watts.  Hardly big power users either, are they?

I swear I have no idea where some of you people get your information.

Plasma is NOT more expensive than LCD.  One year ago maybe but right now LCD's of every size are more expensive.  

Plasma COSTS more to opperate (electricity) than LCD's.

Plasma tv's still can, on a case by case basis, suffer from image retention (burn in).

Plasma tv's CANNOT produce colors as brightly or clearly as a LCD tv.

Plasma tv's do however produce deeper and darker and truer blacks.  

The other differneces are that Plasma's do not work as well in high altitudes and they have glass fronts.  

Most manufacturers have put their focus on LCD TV manufacturing.  

Sony doesn't make plasma, Sharp doesn't, etc, etc.

Basically in the end it comes down to whether you play video games.  

If you do a plasma tv is out of the question.

Get an LCD, they are lighter weight and easier to get home and put up on the wall.  The picture is just fine too.
