Which nickname do you prefer?

I know people say that you can't choose your children's nicknames, but I think you can to an extent. Obviously when they're born certain nicknames arise from the way they behave or events that you couldn't have predicted but you can call them from an early age by the nickname you want them to use most.

My sister already as an Elsie (Isabelle) and wants if she has another girl to do the same thing of a longer/more formal first name with a cute nickname.

For a little girl called Astrid Eden - which of these nicknames do you prefer?

Trixy

Pixie

Tassie

Edie

or any others?

  1. Astrid is only 2 syllables anyway, so I don't think a nickname is even necessary but I like Trixy or even better, Trixie..=] xo

  2. I love Edie! Very cute. Tassie is my second favorite.

I actually agree with you, it's a nice name :) Not a name that lacks substance like Nevaeh. I'll be naming my child Lydia Paige if it's a girl. It's not a cutesy/urban/fussy name.

As for suggestions.. maybe Dee Dee? For the Eden. Um, Ash? I'm having a little trouble here haha.

Edit: Also, I agree with both suggestions "Tessy" and "Aster" Also.. I'd like to add "Asten" I love itttt. :D

  3. I do like Astrid Eden very much indeed, but I only really like Edie out of the diminutives.

Personally I'd wait till she put in an appearance and see what she's like - possibly a Screech or a Wrigglebum! One of mine still answers to "Pickle" at home ...

I agree about the naff names too; some people come up with the most hideous things and call them "unique". There's a reason why they've been unusual or undiscovered. It's because they're ugly, cheap and nasty.

FWIW I know of a 16yo girl (chav!!!) who just called her newborn son Diamante. I bet he only answers to Dave by the time he's 8.

  4. i'd say Edie. the rest sounds like cats names. I know a cat called Trixy.

  5. Astrid Eden is absolutely gorgeous!! i think im going to steal astrid for my list :)

i like edie best out of those nicknames :)

  6. I've a friend called Astrid and we call her Assie.

  7. I'm really not tring to be mean but don't you think Astroid Eden is kind of an easy name to ridicule?

  8. Umm, not being harsh, but what name is Astrid?

Andd.. for a nickname i suggest...

    Eddie A

    Thats cool.

    Or EA.

  9. Trixie.

  10. Pixie. It's cool, But you know as well as me that nicknames come and go. LOL take me for an example. I've had hundreds.............

  11. Trixy

  12. Ok...I don't mean to insult but why are you asking strangers to pick a nickname of a child they don't know. You plan on giving her a nickname because it's cute...???

The nickname (if they will be one) will arise all by itself...I'm assuming she isn't born yet so I know it's really exciting but just wait till you meet her and see her gorgeous personality.

  13. i like edie...but im not sure if im pronouncing it correct...

    ee-dee

    it sounds most like eden

    i like that one! haha

isnt there someone from despreate houswives with that name??

  14. Katy! This nick name has a certain ring to it and which reminds me of James Deans's Mother in the East of Eden one of the all time movie greats.

Katy Eden....certainly has panache about it.

  15. Edie

    much betta than the rest

  16. Trixy and Pixie don't do it for me I'm afraid!!

So my vote would go with Tassie or Edie....

the only other nickname that sprang to mind was Star ...

    (I got there like this: Astrid --> Astrix --> * -->star)

It'd be a good conversation starter!!

  17. Personally I like Trixy.  Maybe because I liked the Trixie Beldon books when I was a kid.

I wouldn't go with Pixie because can you imagine being an adult called Pixie?  Believe me, childhood nicknames can really stick with you, especially with your family or friends who knew you from when you were a little kid.

  18. Tassie. : D

  19. edie is cute, don't like astrid, makes me think of asteroids

  20. Love love Astrid. Such a gorgeous name. But I prefer the nickname Aster with it. I have Astrid "Aster" on my list for girl names.

Edit: Hehe. Yes, us who loves old names are very few and far on YA!

  21. Edie is a really nice one...like Edie britt from desperate housewives!!

  22. pixie && tassie have nothing to do with the name, so that wouldnt make any sense at all.

i would say trixy or edie,

i actually think that just calling her eden is fine...

  23. Tassie xx

  24. aww i love the name astrid its so unusual and i love unusual names...i think trix/trixy is a cool nickname n also trids/tridi...my best mates nickname is trids bt thats cos it comes from her surname..her real name is emily lol

  25. Trixy

  26. I like Trixy and Pixie :) Lol, Trixy Pixie?

  27. Pixie... really??
